In 1985, the Juan March Foundation organized the first solo exhibition in Spain dedicated to Robert Rauschenberg (Texas, 1925\u2013Florida, 2008), as part of the pioneering work the institution undertook during the 1970s and 1980s to introduce artists who were as significant as they were unfamiliar in a country that still lacked the spaces to showcase them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, forty years later, coinciding with the centenary of his birth and in collaboration with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation in New York, this new exhibition returns to the artist with a fresh and renewed perspective. We will discover a creator who was a photographer\u2014and a photographer who was also an artist\u2014capable of experimenting with every kind of technique, material, and surface, even challenging the boundaries between the artistic movements of his time: Abstract Expressionism and the Pop Art of the 1950s and 1960s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition also reveals a figure who was not only groundbreaking in his own century, but ahead of ours, exposing us to a constant stream of images and contributing to their ongoing circulation\u2014traits that define contemporary culture and the technological era in which we live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
