We invite you on a captivating journey through the city that shaped the life and work of one of the most influential — and complex — artists of all time: Francisco de Goya.
Join us on a visit to two of the most emblematic corners of Madrid’s history: the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, where many of this artist’s works are housed, and the impressive Basilica of San Francisco el Grande, which also forms part of the Goya universe.
At the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, we will admire thirteen magnificent paintings by the painter who pioneered contemporary art: “The Burial of the Sardine,” self-portraits, and his impressive engravings. Next, we will head to a typical bar in the center of Madrid to recharge our batteries before continuing on to the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande. There, in the so-called Goya Chapel, we will see the Aragonese painter’s work “San Bernardino de Siena preaching to Alfonso V of Aragon.” We will also be able to admire paintings by artists such as Velázquez, Alonso Cano, Luca Giordano, Zurbarán, and Mariano Benlliure, among others.
But this is not merely a journey through art — it is an exploration of the man behind the brush. With the guidance of our expert storytellers, you will come to know Goya in his most human and revealing context: his unflinching critique of society, and his profound connection to the people of Madrid, whose everyday lives inspired much of his work.
Step into the Madrid of the 18th and 19th centuries — a vibrant stage of political unrest, social change, and cultural transformation. You will understand how Goya, with his singular and provocative vision, broke free from academic tradition to give voice to a new consciousness: that of modern society.
This is more than a tour — it is an experience to feel, to reflect, and to see the world through Goya’s eyes.
